Engine Break-In Procedure
Essential Steps for Maximum Performance & Longevity
Thank you for choosing us to rebuild your engine! We’ve completed the initial break-in steps (Steps 1–3) as part of our quality control process to ensure your engine is running properly before you receive it.
To finish the break-in process and get the best performance and longevity from your engine, please follow the remaining steps carefully.
✅ Steps We’ve Completed for You (Quality Control Process):
Step 1: Pre-Start Inspection (Completed by our technicians)
✔️ Verified correct oil level and break-in oil installed.
✔️ Inspected coolant level (if applicable).
✔️ Checked for fuel, oil, and coolant leaks.
✔️ Ensured air filter was clean and properly installed.
Step 2: Initial Heat Cycles (Completed by our technicians)
🔥 Performed multiple controlled heat cycles to allow engine components to seat properly:
✔️ Ran the engine at low RPMs for 2–3 minutes, followed by full cooling cycles.
✔️ Checked for leaks, abnormal noises, and proper oil circulation.
Step 3: First Ride & Load Testing (Completed by our technicians)
🏍️ Conducted an initial test ride to ensure proper piston ring seating and overall engine performance:
✔️ Varied RPMs up to 50% throttle for 10–15 minutes.
✔️ Avoided prolonged idling or constant RPMs.
✔️ Monitored temperatures, engine response, and overall function.
✅ Your Engine is Now Ready!
Your engine is now ready for the final stages of the break-in process.
➡️ Please follow the next steps carefully to ensure maximum performance and engine longevity.
🏞️ Step 4: Moderate Riding (Four 15 min sessions / 1 Hour Total) (Your Responsibility)
🚀 Goal: Continue seating piston rings and engine components under moderate load.
-
Use up to 75% throttle with moderate acceleration and deceleration.
-
Vary your RPMs—avoid cruising at a constant speed.
-
Use engine breaking (accelerate and decelerate frequently) to aid piston ring seating.
-
Avoid lugging the engine (low RPM with high gear) or aggressive riding.
-
After each hour of riding, allow the engine to cool completely.
🏁 Step 5: Final Stage (Four 15 min sessions / 1 Hour Total) (Your Responsibility)
✅ Goal: Safely transition to normal riding conditions.
-
Use full throttle in short bursts but avoid sustained high RPMs.
-
Continue varying RPMs and throttle inputs.
-
Do not hit the rev limiter or hold the engine at maximum RPM.
🛠️ Step 6: Post Break-In Maintenance (Required after 2 hours)
💡 This maintenance is critical to remove break-in debris and ensure engine longevity:
✅ Change the oil and oil filter to remove metal particles and contaminants.
✅ Inspect and clean the air filter.
⚠️ Important Reminders:
🚫 Use non-synthetic oil until after 5–10 hours of total break-in time (unless otherwise advised).
🚫 Avoid prolonged idling and holding steady throttle positions.
🚫 Do not race or subject the engine to extreme loads until the break-in process is complete.
